KAILANI JOHNSON
KAILANI KUSUMA JOHNSON / 22 YEARS OLD / PRO SURFER & MODEL
Surfing right now feels like an extension of me, like a part of my body. It’s a way I express myself and an excuse to spend time in the ocean, connecting with the water. It feels like having energetic conversations with the waves. At times, I used to see surfing as a way to measure success, competing and growing up in that competitive environment. However, at the end of the day, it has been an integral part of my journey.
I have fully reshaped my perspective, and now I’m experiencing a new outlook on surfing—one that allows me to experiment and explore. Surfing has taken me to places I would’ve never gone and introduced me to people I would’ve never met.
and for that, I’m eternally grateful.
Professionally, my intention is to find ways to experiment further with surfing and progress as an athlete, which I pursue through training, competitions, and striving to reach my highest potential physically and mentally.
Beyond becoming a better athlete, I also aspire to build a community, connect with people, and create an environment where we focus on helping, guiding, and authentically supporting one another. I've been enjoying expressing myself more creatively through my surfing and the films I’ve been working on.m working on.
